Well, thank you for asking!
One day I glanced at my day-planner. It was full of crossed out agenda items and scribbled notes. It occurred to me that each day I wrote out my plan for the day, but most of the time my life was dictated by circumstances and events outside of my control.
Most of what I saw that replaced my original planning for the day seemed to be divinely appointed: a lunch with a daughter, a call to a step-son, a chance to pray with an individual who was struggling.
The list went on and on. What I realized was that there were moments in my life where I needed to make room for the Spirit to interrupt my plans and for me to begin to see those interruptions as blessings instead of inconveniences. For me, that meant to start using a pencil to plan my day.
Now, when I pick up the pencil to plan, it immediately reminds me that I am not the one ultimately in control of my day, and I am honored to be used as an instrument of something far greater and more powerful at work in this world.
We all may have a different name for that power. All I know is that when I acknowledge the presence of that power, my day goes so much better.
Life is change…
Embrace those changes…
Use A Pencil.
